Turning invisible emissions into actionable data

About TerraTrace

At TerraTrace, we’re building the next generation of soil-gas flux measurement devices: lightweight, automated instruments that make greenhouse-gas monitoring ten times cheaper
and faster.
Our integrated hardware–software ecosystem helps industries such as waste management, carbon storage, and geothermal energy detect and reduce methane and CO₂ emissions,
comply with EU regulations, and improve environmental data quality worldwide.
We are a multidisciplinary founding team:
● Dr. Walter Düsing – Geoscientist and data scientist with expertise in time-series analysis and mobile software.
● Francy Duarte – Business strategist with commercial and venture-building experience.
● Giorgio Vigili – Hardware engineer specialised in soil-gas geochemistry.
Now, we’re looking for a full-time technical co-founder to own the software architecture and integration between devices, data, and AI.

Your Mandate

You will define and build the software backbone connecting our measurement devices with the data platform and future AI capabilities.
Your mission: design how the system communicates, processes, and learns, from real-time Bluetooth data transfer to AI-enhanced field optimisation.
We already have a functional prototype (built in Flutter with Firebase, Mapbox, and Provider architecture). You may build on it, refactor it, or design a new foundation, whatever best
supports a reliable, scalable, and intelligent product.

Responsibilities

● Lead the software vision and architecture across mobile, firmware connectivity, and data layers.
● Design robust Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) communication and firmware interfaces with the hardware team.
● Build data-handling layers ensuring reliable acquisition, caching, and transfer from field devices.
● Architect the system for future AI integration (data correction, uncertainty estimation, and guidance).
● Develop intuitive tools for real-time visualisation, survey planning, and data quality monitoring.
● Collaborate closely with hardware, scientific, and AI teams to create a unified architecture.
● Establish software best practices, CI/CD, and mentor future developers as the team grows.

What We’re Looking For

● Entrepreneurial mindset and readiness for full-time, early-stage commitment.
● Ownership mentality.
● Proven experience in mobile or embedded software development (Flutter, Kotlin, Swift, or similar).
● Strong background in BLE communication, IoT, or firmware–app integration.
● Understanding of data pipelines, geospatial visualisation, or scientific instrumentation.
● Curiosity and willingness to explore AI-assisted field workflows.

What You’ll Get

● Co-founder equity in a high-impact climate tech company.
● The chance to define a new standard for environmental measurement.
● Collaboration with an experienced, international founding team.
● Access to Carbon13’s venture network, investors, and mentors.
● Full ownership of the software direction — from architecture to deployment.
