Chris is Senior Faculty in Management Practice at Cambridge Judge Business School. For 14 years he has been teaching and carrying out advisory work in entrepreneurship and strategy.

He is a former entrepreneur and holds an MBA from London Business School, an MSc in Social Psychology and a PhD in Management from the London School of Economics.

Dr Nicky Dee

Co-founder & Chief Sustainability and Innovation Officer

Nicky has pioneered many activities in the sustainability space to scale up impact from startups. This has included work with UNEP, Nesta, European Projects, Climate KIC, DfID, UK Gov. She has been an entrepreneur as well as worked directly with entrepreneurs and those who support them. 

She designed and delivered the Unilever Young Entrepreneurs Awards in partnership with CISL for several years which globally attracted thousands of entrepreneurs. She has engaged with many corporates through executive education and consultancy and developed frameworks to evaluate startup ecosystems which she has applied to many leading as well as emerging locations. Nicky is also actively exploring inclusive approaches to entrepreneurship.

Michael Langguth

Co-founder & Chief Strategy Officer

Michael is a serial entrepreneur originally from Germany. His first business was a peer-to-peer letting business in the Netherlands in the early 2000s. His most recent start-up, Poq, is a London based software-as-a-service platform for mobile shopping, powering the apps of some of the largest retailers in the world. The company has grown over 10 years out of UCL where Michael holds an MSc in Technology Entrepreneurship.

Jonathan Cumming

Chief Financial Officer & Managing Director

Jonathan has spent the last 20 years as the CFO of first a private equity owned cable telecommunications business based in Madrid and then of a global media & entertainment group with headquarters in Barcelona. He was with the cable business from inception to preparation for a $10 billion strategic trade sale and at the media business he led an operational turnaround through to a $2billion change of ownership. Jonathan has extensive experience of growing businesses, acquiring and disposing of businesses and the operational management required to create maximum value. Prior to these roles, Jonathan worked in investment banking. He is a graduate of the University of Cambridge.

Emma Mee

Community Director

Emma has a 20-year background in climate change and sustainability, with a keen interest in solutions to address the world’s critical issues. At Cambridge University Institute for Sustainability she supported cross-sector business leadership groups to increase emission reduction regulations across the UK and Europe, designed senior executive education in climate and delivered the first two years of the Young Sustainability Entrepreneurs Awards for Unilever and HRH The Prince of Wales. She then spent four years at Allia working hands-on with impact entrepreneurs and curating accelerator programmes, partnering with EIT Climate KIC and creating opportunities for tech-for-good ventures. Emma was until recently a councillor with the National Trust, and loves regenerative business models and rewilding.

Dominic Margetson

Director of Communications and Partnerships

Dominic has over 20 years’ experience in some of the world’s most successful brands. Most recently he returned from Seattle where he held Global Brand Director role for Microsoft. This included the development of the Microsoft brand sustainability strategy. Previously he was Brand Strategy Director where he led a global entrepreneur program to inspire Microsoft’s marketing to be more authentic, innovative and relevant. Dominic has previously worked for Nokia, Wal-Mart and creative agency FCB inferno. He has a background in brand strategy, partnerships, digital marketing, and communications.

Sara Jones

Marketing Manager

Sara has a decade of experience working in startups, including founding her own. She specialises in marketing, covering digital, content, and growth marketing. She is an alumna of the New Entrepreneurs Foundation and member of Founders of the Future. She holds a First Class degree in Classics from UCL.

Anneleen has a Bachelor of Journalism from Thomas More College in Mechelen, Belgium. After moving to the UK she gained significant administrative and managerial experience working in several companies including deep-tech start-ups. At Carbon13 she is helping to organise the business from the operational and financial side, providing support to both the CFO and Head of People.


Anneleen is passionate about environmental issues and loves to spend her spare time in nature, preferably with some animals by her side. 

Min Dhillon

Fundraising & Investor Relations Lead

Min has extensive experience across partnership development, business strategy and go-to-market. Prior to joining Carbon13, he was the UK product marketing lead at Eventbrite, pre and post IPO. He has over 10 years of experience spanning technology start ups to academic publishing and is managing Carbon13’s fundraising activities and investor relationships.

Catherine has 18 years investment experience. She worked in the investment team at the Wellcome Trust for ten years, becoming a principal in the public markets group and part of the management team. She was a member of both decision-making groups: the investment decision team and the markets group.  

Prior to Wellcome, Catherine started her career in the family office of a Greek shipping family and then became an analyst in equity trading at Lehman Brothers. 

Catherine has been a member of the advisory board of Schroders (Cazenove Charities) Charity Authorised Investment Funds since 2019, becoming Chair of the Board in 2023.  

Catherine is the Chair of the Business Club at Women2Win, a group leading the campaign to find, train and mentor more women to become members of parliament. Catherine is also on the development board of the Centre for Social Justice, a think-tank with over a third of its recommendations adopted by government. 

Catherine read Chemistry at Oxford University (MChem) and is a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry. 

Puja Balachander

Puja is a recently exited founder excited about using her product and commercial experience to accelerate the just transition. Outside Carbon13, Puja mentors and angel invests in climate tech startups, and consults with local government on using innovations in policy implementation to accelerate decarbonisation.

Most recently Puja was Director of Product at Think of Us, a civic tech company dedicated to systems change in the child welfare system. Before this, she was founder/CEO of Devie (acquired by Think of Us), a venture-backed D2C health tech startup. Prior to this, she was in civic tech, working at local (City of Austin), national (White House Presidential Innovation Fellows), and international (World Bank in Madagascar) governmental organizations to make public services better. Puja has an MBA from Oxford and a BA from American University.Puja is a recently exited founder excited about using her product and commercial experience to accelerate the just transition.

Richard is an an experienced senior leader with 20+ years experience in the software industry, including at world-class organisations Automattic and Redgate. His expertise is primarily in product design and development, revenue growth, and scaling.

 

In 2019 he switched his focus to impact entrepreneurship to help address the climate emergency. He joined Carbon13’s second cohort in Cambridge in 2021 and joined Carbon13 full-time in 2022.

Paul originally trained as a Chartered Accountant but changed careers in 1993 and has spent 30 years working in technology solutions and products internationally in the edtech, publishing and media industries and was the product manager for one of the UK’s first AI products in 1999 which yielded £millions in cost savings and efficiencies.  He also spent 10 years in digital transformations and as a tech product and pricing domain expert for graduate startups.

Deborah Olaifa

Marketing Manager

Deborah has experience across brand management and marketing, covering brand partnerships, social content, and growth marketing. Prior to joining Carbon13, she spent much time working in the entertainment industry as an artist manager, as well as joining US digital tech company, as their head of corporate partnerships. She is one out of two founders for a Cambridge-based network that builds power to bring justice, a voice, and business support for ethnic minorities in the city. Deborah brings a fresh outlook, alongside her innovative ideas to the Carbon13 team.

Mai Silk

Programme Officer

Mai is a Programme Officer for Carbon13’s Venture Builder,  fulfilling the duties responsible for the delivery of Carbon 13’s programme and is one of the first points of contact for Cohort members.

 

She has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, with experience in administration and event coordination. Mai is pleased to be part of a community which shares her desire to work towards finding solutions to critical global issues.

Jordan Torch

Programme Officer

Jordan holds a BA in Urban and Russian Studies from Rhodes College in Memphis, TN. While there, she worked in community development in the non-profit sector. She also holds an MSc in Planning and Development from Queen’s University Belfast where she got the chance to engage with sustainability efforts across multiple sectors. Jordan is very excited to be a part of the Carbon13 team!

As Sustainability Manager at Formula E, Hattie grew a holistic analytical mindset from conducting the championship life cycle assessments and the international standard of sustainability in events (ISO 20121). Hattie has organised an 8 day road trip for electric cars in the United Arab Emirates and Oman to inspire transformation to electric mobility through adventure and advocacy. As a freelance producer she has worked with fisheries charities on communications projects and the founders of seaweed aquaculture start-ups to launch new businesses and bring products to market.

 

A new addition to the team in March 2023, she will bring together inspirational storytelling, creating impactful showcases and a drive to make things happen to support the partnerships and communications team at Carbon 13.

Jack holds a Bachelor’s degree in History with German, and a Master’s degree in Conflict, Security, and Development, both from the University of Exeter. In completing these, he became interested in the development issues facing the global community and how he could help to solve them. Jack has worked in education, community development, and humanitarian aid in the non-profit sector, developing his skills in administration, interpersonal communication, and project management in the process. He is very excited to now be a part of the Carbon13 team!

Stefanie has a 20-year background in scientific research with entrepreneurship and a keen interest in supporting scientists to translate their ideas into world-changing solutions. At the MRC-Laboratory of Molecular Biology and Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute, Stefanie worked as a staff scientist on novel imaging technologies and as a consultant on commercialising these for an international market. She developed the technology community network CTPN and in lock-down the weekly lecture series ImagingONEWORLD.
She contributed to entrepreneurship networks such as EITFOOD and RisingWISE as a coach and mentor. As a biologist, she has been an advocate for sustainability and is looking forward to applying her community building skills to Carbon13. Stefanie is also an internationally exhibited photographer and loves providing presentation and visualisation training.

Simon holds an M.A. in Communication & Marketing with a research focus on trust. In almost 10 years of experience in marketing, he has advised startups on marketing and funding strategies and public funding. He himself spent two years in a climate tech startup as Head of Marketing, implementing projects across Europe.

 

Since November 2022, he is Head of Marketing EU at Carbon13 and is excited about the multitude and diversity of great talents, teams and ideas.

Marina Fontoura

Marina is an outgoing and motivated Brazilian who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration and a Master’s degree in Sustainability Science, having studied sustainable development in the Brazilian Amazon Forest. She has almost 4 years of experience working in marketing, sustainability, and project management at Unilever Brazil. Marina is happy to use her diverse skills to support climate tech entrepreneurs as Carbon13’s Programme Officer.

David Gill

David has been CEO of the St John’s Innovation Centre in Cambridge since 2008. He previously ran the Innovation & Technology Unit at HSBC Bank in London (1997-2004). David was called to the Bar by the Middle Temple before working in corporate finance for US and UK banks. A Sloan Fellow at the Stanford Graduate School of Business in California (2004-05), he is an Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Manufacturing (University of Cambridge Department of Engineering), a non-executive director of the European Business Network and NXD of several firms specialising in financing early-stage, high-potential businesses. In recent years, he has been involved in advisory and training projects for Poland, Libya, Kuwait, Thailand and China. His publications cover innovation ecosystems, entrepreneurial finance and business incubation.

Tim Jones

Tim Jones

Chairman of Treatt plc, an ingredients manufacturer exporting to 90+ countries and Premium-listed on the London Stock Exchange Main Market. A Member of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments and an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute, Tim began his career in financial services with Royal Insurance and subsequently held posts in the Middle East, the US and Europe before entering the beverage sector including the establishment of a joint venture in the Balkans. For 17 years he was Chief Executive of Allia, a charitable organisation where he oversaw a range of new solutions to drive impact entrepreneurship developing social finance initiatives for impact investment through Employment and Housing Bonds and London Stock Exchange-listed Bonds. He remains Senior Advisor to Allia’s Trustees, Chairman of Allia’s stockbroking subsidiary City and Continental Ltd and a Non-executive director of Retail Charity Bonds plc.

Lisa Smith

Lisa is currently setting up Btomorrow Ventures the Corporate Venturing arm of BAT in order to accelerate BAT’s digital transformation and Beyond Nicotine Strategy. She was previously a Director at Unilever Ventures leading sustainable investment for 8 years; and founder Entrepreneur in Residence at the Royal College of Art’s Dyson Incubator. Prior to investing Lisa was Chief Engineer building and operating factories for Unilever; she then joined McKinsey, practicing lean operations in NA and EU. Lisa is passionate about people and planet, she built a tech platform to support wellbeing and eliminate social isolation of the elderly as CEO of Kraydel, and designed and launched a Pan-African agricultural green bond to address food security alongside a novel multi-country Agri-MBA. Lisa has won numerous leadership, innovation & IT awards most recently as UK Women in IT Entrepreneur of the year & Mentor of the year.  Lisa has an MBA from Harvard Business School, an MSc in Bio-Mechanics and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering.

Lubomila is the Founder & CEO of Plan A, the award-winning and certified end-to-end platform for carbon accounting, carbon reduction and ESG reporting, underpinned by scientific methods and technology. Lubomila is also the Co-founder of the Greentech Alliance, a community of 1000+ Greentech companies which connects its members to top tier VCs, media and experts. Lubomila’s work has seen her awarded Forbes 30 Under 30 in 2020, Top 50 Women in Tech in Germany 2021, and most recently as Sustainability Hero 2021, Generali Group SME EnterPrize Award, 2021.

Adizah Tejani

Adizah Tejani

Adizah is a product-focused technology executive having worked on the rollout of digital products such as websites, billing systems, and payment products. Fast forward to 2020 and she has built a unique lens while working in the technology sector in London. She is the former Director of Marketing EMEA at Token a fintech company from San Francisco and was the first marketing hire in the European market in 2016. In 2013 she was part of the founding team of Level39 a technology accelerator focused on fintech products. She has been in the technology and startup ecosystem since 2009 and understands how to build relationships that add value to all partners. She was part of the 2011 team that grew edtech company Apps for Good – scaling the program from 2 schools to 100 schools. Over the years Adizah picked up a number of awards and was recently named by the FT as one of the top 100 2018 EMpower ethnic minority executives in the UK and North America.

Stephanie Alys

A Deloitte management consultant turned award-winning entrepreneur, Stephanie co-founded leading British sexual health & wellbeing brand MysteryVibe. Over 5 years, Stephanie grew MV from basic concept to pulling in £m revenues, and expanding to over 60 countries. 
Stephanie’s previous work in sustainability includes business strategy for large renewable energy infrastructure projects and Demand Side Management, alongside large scale communications and public affairs campaigns. She holds an MSc in Energy & Climate policy.
Stephanie has been featured in publications such as the BBC, Times, Guardian, CNBC and TechCrunch. She was awarded the Veuve Clicquot Business Woman award in 2018 for her achievements in taking sextech to the mainstream.

Jérome Joaug

Jérome is a serial entrepreneur who founded Cambridge Nanosystems, a leading graphene nanomaterial supplier (sold in 2015) and Nymbly, an IoT company acquired by ARM in 2017 before joining Aster, a VC firm headquartered in Paris and focused on Climate Tech. He is also an active angel investor with about 20+ companies in this portfolio.

Jerome completed his training at the Ecole Polytechnique (Paris) and the University of Cambridge, Judge Business School.

Sarah Dees

Over 20 years in the finance sector, I have gained experience in Executive leadership positions in FTSE100 financial corporate institutions, including Barclays Bank and Goldman Sachs. During this time I have developed strong relationships across asset management, banking, insurance and pension funds. Currently CEO of a FinTech start-up.
I am an entrepreneurial international finance leader with technical expertise in structured products. My Executive experiences, currently with FinTech start-up ‘EU Pay’ and large corporates such as Barclays and Goldman Sachs, have equipped me with diverse Non-Executive Director offerings.
Several years of client on-boarding have developed my compliance literacy and I am comfortable in ensuring corporate governance within listed companies. Investor Relations is also one of my key offerings – high-level representation and the supporting of capital raising efforts.
