Physical entities, from people to businesses and organizations, are characterized by a multitude of attributes, and interact driven by their goals in environments that depend on the context. Agent-based AI can capture the essential features and behavioral modes for a given context, enabling digital twins and predictive applications that have been applied successfully in many fields. I envision a platform, as a virtual marketplace for environmental services, where such agents as avatars of their real-world counterparts, can advertise their offerings, set ask and bid prices, and trade services. Such services can be anything from energy trading between producers and consumers (in virtual private networks riding on public grids), to investment opportunities, carbon credits based on the ability of the agents to sequester carbon, to other environmental services in areas such as regenerative agriculture and biodiversity services. The agents can be anything from individual energy consumers and producers, to farms, land plots, businesses, or any organization, so long as it is an entity capable of offering or consuming environmental services. They could encompass data from any source, links to sensors, existing knowledge and models, covering physical aspects, technologies and the behavior of human actors. Creating and establishing such an ecosystem successfully for one area would be the target for an MVP. Thereafter network effects will create a momentum that may help the further growth and continuous expansion of such an ecosystem.
