Emissions from urban individual mobility are a major driver of the climate emergency. Public transport systems are an important part of the solution, but do not always fulfil the need for autonomy and flexibility. Car sharing services are becoming increasingly diverse. However, this is only partly reflected in more favourable prices. There are also apps for temporarily hiring out your own car, which have little traction for various reasons. My idea is inspired by services such as https://www.myne-homes.com and https://www.supercarsharing.com/en and combines core elements of these concepts. I’m thinking of a platform where people with complementary automotive usage profiles who live in the same neighbourhood come together to own a non-supercar. In addition to intelligent algorithms for matching and fair distribution of usage times, the operator also provides other services – from embedded insurance to contracts and claims settlement. In addition to the original trading margin, which is lower for locally emission-free vehicles, these services offer exciting monetisation options. In further expansion stages, it is also conceivable to operate your own charging infrastructure, for example. The obvious cost advantage is not the only benefit: – Increased utilisation – Unlike with rental or classic car sharing, shared responsibility for the condition of the car – Plannable availability that ideally matches your own requirements profile. Why could this be a carbon case? – Fewer vehicles are needed overall. – Even if the concept contributes to the purchase of higher vehicle categories, emissions are reduced overall. – Reduced need for parking spaces, which can then be reused in a climate-effective way. Key deliverable for the MVP would be a web-app including the basic algorithms and an early-bird registration.
