"Carbon13 is set up to guide you from idea to impact, with all the resources, mentorship, and support a budding entrepreneur could hope for."

What are Entrepreneurs in Residence and how do they support?

Entrepreneurs in Residence (EIRs) are our closest circle of supporters. From Phase 2 onwards, they are mentors and sparring partners for our teams and bring a wealth of experience from entrepreneurship and technical understanding. We would like to introduce you to our EIRs.

Would you briefly introduce yourself and highlight what kind of expertise and support the teams can expect from you?

Hello, I’m Livia Zimermann. As a three-time founder and now adventuring into the VC world, I bring a blend of entrepreneurial grit and strategic vision to Carbon13. I’ve successfully bootstrapped and scaled brands/startups in the climate tech and consumer sectors, leading product, go-to-market and fundraising towards profitability. At Carbon13, you can count on my support to craft product strategies, navigate market entry, and foster innovation with resilience and passion. I’m here to help you turn ambitious ideas into impactful ventures.

What made you join Carbon13’s mission to fight the climate emergency by supporting climatetech projects?

I joined Carbon13 because I believe in doing work that matters. Their mission to propel climatetech solutions into the market matches my passion for making a real impact in the fight against climate change. And I have to admit, thats how I can make multiply my own impact.

What is the difference when it comes to supporting and working with climatetech founders, compared to other founders?

Climatetech founders tackle unique challenges, from navigating complex markets to achieving sustainability targets. I’m here to help them stay focused on their targets without forgetting to listen to customers, and make sure their innovative solutions reach the people who need them most.

Carbon13 is about building sustainable startups and also about building strong teams who can support each other throughout the challenging  journey. Are there any examples of teams whose treatment of each other has impressed you and that others could learn from?

I’m continually impressed by teams that truly listen to one another and tackle challenges together. The cofounder dating questionnaire from First Round Review is a fantastic tool for this. When cofounders invest time at the beginning to align their visions, values, and expectations, they build a strong foundation of trust and alignment. By discussing potential future issues and going through scenarios that might break the company, The best teams ensure they are well-prepared to handle challenges effectively. This proactive approach fosters innovation and resilience, turning great ideas into successful ventures. It’s better to make or break a team early on than down the line.

Building a start-up is a rollercoaster ride with many ups and downs. What tips do you have for founders to cope with this?

Believe in you and in your vision first – not on mentors or investors, learn to articulate your vision. BUT AT THE SAME TIME stay flexible and keep your eyes on the big picture. It’s okay to pivot when necessary. Building a startup is tough, but remember, you’re not alone. Surround yourself with the most knowledgeable people to handpick the best advice and get to the best conclusions alongside your team.

Why do you think that Carbon13 is a good place to start a successful climatetech venture?
