Role Purpose

Join Bluemethane in tackling climate change by capturing and preventing methane emissions. We’re looking for a Control & Automation Engineer to design innovative solutions that make a real difference to the planet.

At Bluemethane, you’ll work in a collaborative, mission-driven team with access to substantial training allowances and opportunities to innovate in sustainability technology. You’ll design and implement robust control and instrumentation systems for Bluemethane’s methane measurement and prevention technology, ensuring reliable, safe, and efficient plant operations.

Key Outcomes

  • Develop and maintain control philosophies and loop architectures for each plant.
  • Deliver operational P&IDs and electrical schematics ready for fabrication.
  • Ensure accurate field data integration into PLC/SCADA for safe operations.
  • Commission plants with fully functional VSDs, instruments, and interlocks.

Responsibilities

  • Control Systems Design: Create and maintain control philosophies, functional specs, and loop documentation.
  • Instrumentation & Drives: Select and commission sensors and VSDs, ensuring compliance with operational needs.
  • PLC/SCADA Integration: Configure site control networks, telemetry, and IIoT dashboards.
  • Safety & Compliance: Participate in HAZOP reviews and maintain safety registers.
  • Commissioning & Support: Oversee site commissioning and enable remote monitoring.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineering teams, OEMs, and water companies.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in control engineering within wastewater or oil & gas.
  • Hands-on PLC/SCADA integration and PID tuning.
  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation and VSD commissioning.
  • Familiarity with Modbus RTU/TCP and MQTT protocols.
  • Ability to produce high-quality engineering drawings (AutoCAD, MS Visio).

Nice‑to‑Have

  • Experience with methane/biogas measurement.
  • Knowledge of IIoT platforms and data governance.
  • Exposure to HART communication and National Instruments DAQ.

Working mode

  • On site at office
  • Site visits for commissioning and vendor meetings as needed
  • Remote monitoring/configuration supported.

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary: £43,700 – £50,500 (depending on experience)
