Role summary:

We are seeking a motivated and talented Research assistant/Junior scientist in Microbiology to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will contribute to our innovative research by conducting microbial fermentation experiments, operating advanced laboratory equipment, and ensuring the smooth functioning of our lab operations. As part of our fast-moving startup, you will work closely with a collaborative team to address challenges and drive advancements in biotechnology.

Key responsibilities:

  • Design and execute microbial fermentations in media and bioprocess development at various scales.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including liquid-handling robots and bioreactors.
  • Accurately record and analyse experimental data, timely update of LIMS system.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of experimental protocols and workflows.
  • Assist in preparing scientific reports, presentations, and publications.
  • Run and maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with microbial fermentation techniques and bioprocess development.
  • Proficiency in operating laboratory equipment, such as liquid-handling robots, bioreactors, or similar tools.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in recording and analyzing experimental data.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Must be available for on-site lab work in Freising (85354).

Nice to have:

  • Experience with high-throughput screening (HTS) methods.
  • Knowledge of probiotics and their applications.
  • Familiarity with data analysis software or programming languages (e.g., Python, R).
  • Previous experience in a startup or industrial research setting.
