Carbon13 named as official Earthshot Nominators
The search for the Winners of The Earthshot Prize 2025 has begun and Carbon13 is proud to be an Official Nominator.
Launched in 2020, The Earthshot Prize is an ambitious global prize and platform for impact, designed to discover, celebrate and scale the best solutions to help repair our planet.
Carbon13 has been invited to use our experience supporting hundreds of climatetech startups to identify the most impactful solutions across the Prize’s five categories:
- Protect and Restore Nature
- Clean our Air
- Revive our Oceans
- Build a Waste-Free World
- Fix our Climate
What is the Earthshot Prize looking for?
The Earthshot Prize is looking for “tangible” and “tipping point”, aka solutions which make tangible progress towards one of the five Earthshots and which are beyond idea stage. These are solutions which have been tested in-field or with target audiences, and are at a ‘tipping point’ for scaling their impact within the next five years.

What happens after Carbon13 nominates solutions?
After nominations are submitted, they are screened as part of a rigorous assessment process culminating in the selection of five Winners by the Earthshot Prize Council.
Finalists and Winners are given an incredible platform to amplify their work, as well as tailored support from The Earthshot Prize and our network of NGOs, businesses, governments, funders and expert mentors. The five Winners also receive a one-of-a-kind award and a one-million-pound grant to scale their impact. The Earthshot Prize also celebrates and accelerates hundreds more innovators and their solutions beyond the Finalists through their innovative finance platform LaunchPad and other initiatives.
We need a bold and catalytic shift to get more environmental innovations out into the heart of the economy. Carbon13 is delighted to bring some of the most impactful solutions to global recognition through the Earthshot Prize. As we look ahead to nominations for 2025, we’ll rigorously assess each nominee’s science, impact potential, and ability to scale for real-world transformation.
Carbon13 has worked with 1000 entrepreneurs since 2021 through our Venture Builder programme and Venture Launchpad accelerator. We’ve invested in 72 startups who have a collective potential to reduce emissions by 500 million tonnes per year, when at scale. At least four of our portfolio have been Earthshot nominated in previous years: Kita, Tierra Foods, Deep Blue Biotech and Samudra Ocean.
Impact is interconnected
We’re known for setting a threshold of 10 million tonnes of decarbonisation potential for the solutions we support, but decarbonisation does not operate in a vacuum. Our solutions interconnect with biodiversity, soil health, the circular economy, water resource and the just transition to name just a few circles in the Venn Diagram. For example, Tierra Foods is noted for its work with indigenous farmers in the Americas, Kita’s solution protects and restores nature, and together with Samudra Ocean all three have at least one female founder – as do 65% of Carbon13’s portfolio.
