Scaling biomass electrolysis to produce cost-effective green hydrogen

The partnership between Wales & West Utilities and KI Hydrogen (from Cambridge Cohort 4 of our Venture Builder Programme) continues to flourish as they scale biomass electrolysis to produce cost-effective green hydrogen.

After successfully completing the initial ‘Discovery’ phase funded by the Ofgem Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF), the project has advanced into a £446k initiative funded by the Network Innovation Allowance (NIA). This funding is crucial for identifying and supporting breakthrough technologies to help decarbonise the UK’s energy networks and achieve ambitious net zero targets.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone in demonstrating that green hydrogen can be produced at cost parity with grey hydrogen, without relying on subsidies or cheap electricity.
