The Solution

Nanoplume is creating a new class of insulation through the manufacturing of a Bio-Aerogel, a nanoporous, ultra-light material made from renewable feedstocks. Combining cutting-edge material science with sustainable inputs, they deliver industry-leading thermal insulation while offering a lighter, thinner, and more efficient alternative to conventional materials.

The Problem

Nanoplume’s Bio-Aerogel is ultra-light, ultra-thin, 100% biodegradable, and non-toxic. In the cold chain, it enables packaging and logistics companies to transport perishable goods such as food and pharmaceuticals further, more efficiently, and at lower cost. In the built environment, it helps construction companies and building operators increase usable living space, reduce material consumption, improve thermal comfort, and lower overall energy demand. The result is a high-performance insulation solution that can help to offset the approximately ~1.4 gigatons of CO₂ per year that is caused by poor insulation.

To hit net zero targets, more than 5 buildings must be retrofitted for energy efficiency globally every single minute between now and 2050. But retrofit has a data problem today, an energy surveyor must visit each property, assess heat loss manually, and come up with a list of recommended actions – a process that can take 2-3 hours per building. By applying machine learning and computer vision to thermal images of buildings (captured by drones), Kestrix makes the automation of energy surveys at scale possible – identifying where heat is escaping, and recommending retrofit actions instantly, without going inside, and for the fraction of a cost of a manual survey.
