The Solution
The Problem
Materials extraction and processing account for 20-25% of global CO2 emissions mainly from producting materials such as steel, cement, aluminium and more. These materials are the backbone of many industrial sectors, including clean technologies such as renewables, batteries and cars. Materuals production takes place at extremely high temeperatures and is often powered by fossil fuels causing significant emissions.
Impact
Tackling the CO2e per unit of materials reduces the embodied carbon in industrial processes. This also allows clean technologies to scale without increasing global material-related emissions. With the support of AI this kind of testing leads to breakthroughs faster, while bringing down the cost of low-carbon material adoption.
