Sara Jones
Head of Marketing
Sara has over a decade of experience working in startups, specialising in the messy early stages which need clarity, speed, and hustle. This journey led to her joining Carbon13 as the first employee where she works on bringing the best founders to our programmes. Sara brings her years of marketing experience to growing Carbon13 across digital, content, and comms. Sara holds a First Class degree in Classics from UCL and is an alumna of the New Entrepreneurs Foundation and Founders of the Future.
Simon Dierks
Head of Marketing Europe
Simon holds a Master’s degree in Communication and Marketing with a research focus on trust building. In his more than 10 years of experience in marketing, he has consulted deeptech start-ups on marketing and financing strategies, as well as being responsible for marketing and communication in an internationally operating climate tech start-up.
Since November 2022, he is Head of Marketing Europe at Carbon13 and is excited about the multitude and diversity of great talents, teams and ideas.
Hattie Mellor
Partnerships Producer
As Sustainability Manager at Formula E, Hattie established a holistic analytical mindset from conducting the championship life cycle assessments and the international standard of sustainability in events (ISO 20121). Hattie has organised an 8-day road trip for electric cars in the UAE and Oman to inspire transformation to electric mobility through adventure and advocacy. As a freelance producer she has worked with fisheries charities on communications projects and seaweed aquaculture start-ups to launch businesses and bring products to market.
Marina Fontoura
Programme Manager Europe
Marina is an outgoing and motivated Brazilian who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration and a Master’s degree in Sustainability Science, having studied sustainable development in the Brazilian Amazon Forest. She has almost 4 years of experience working in marketing, sustainability, and project management at Unilever Brazil. Marina is happy to use her diverse skills to support climate tech entrepreneurs as Carbon13’s Programme Officer.
Anneleen Van Malderen
Operations & Finance Officer
Anneleen has a Bachelor of Journalism. After moving to the UK she gained significant administrative and managerial experience working in several companies including deep-tech start-ups. At Carbon13 she is helping to organise the business from the operational and financial side, providing support to both the CFO and Head of People.
Anneleen is passionate about environmental issues and loves to spend her spare time in nature, preferably with some animals by her side.

Min Dhillon
Head of Capital Â
Min has extensive experience across partnership development, business strategy and go-to-market. Prior to joining Carbon13, he was the UK strategy lead at Eventbrite, pre and post IPO. He has over 10 years of experience spanning technology startups to multi-nationals and is managing Carbon13’s fundraising activities and investor relationships.Â
Catherine Fraser
Investment Principal
Catherine has 18 years’ experience. She worked in the investment team at the Wellcome Trust for 10 years, where she was a principal and a member of the management team. Catherine started her career in the family office of a Greek shipping family and then worked at Lehman Brothers. She is a member of the advisory board of Schroders (Cazenove Charities) CAIF, becoming Chair in 2023, and is on the development board of the Centre for Social Justice. Catherine read Chemistry at Oxford University and is a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
Puja Balachander
Director of Venture Development
Puja, an exited founder, is passionate about accelerating just transition through her product and commercial expertise. Beyond Carbon13, she mentors, angel invests in climate tech startups, and advises local governments on decarbonization via innovative policies. Formerly, she was the Director of Product at Think of Us, and founder/CEO of Devie, acquired by Think of Us. She’s worked in civic tech at the City of Austin, White House, and World Bank. Puja holds an MBA from Oxford and a BA from American University.
Jordan Torch
Data Analyst
Jordan holds a BA in Urban and Russian Studies from Rhodes College in Memphis, TN. While there, she worked in community development in the non-profit sector. She also holds an MSc in Planning and Development from Queen’s University Belfast where she got the chance to engage with sustainability efforts across multiple sectors. Jordan is very excited to be a part of the Carbon13 team!
Paul Hodgson
Director of Technology and Operations
Paul is a highly experienced and versatile technology and agile product leader with over 30 years of experience. Formerly, he worked in software development, support, training, management and mentoring tech startups. Paul was one of the first AI product managers in 1999 and specialises in automation and software product management. He holds a finance degree and a masters in information technology.
Jack Williams-Sharkey
Programme Officer Europe
Jack holds a Bachelor’s degree in History with German, and a Master’s degree in Conflict, Security, and Development, both from the University of Exeter. In completing these, he became interested in the development issues facing the global community and how he could help to solve them. Jack has worked in education, community development, and humanitarian aid in the non-profit sector and is thrilled to now be supporting Carbon13’s teams.
Mai Silk
Programme Manager
Mai is a Programme Officer for Carbon13’s Venture Builder and Venture Launchpad. She manages the events and operations of the programmes; supporting entrepreneurs to team, incorporate, finance and launch climate tech ventures. She is one of the first points of contact for Cohort members and the wider Carbon13 community. She has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and is keen to pursue her passion in sustainability.
Stephanie Alys
Director of Entrepreneurship
Stephanie is Director of Entrepreneurship at Carbon13, responsible for finding and backing exceptional founders & teams to build impactful climate ventures. She’s been with C13 since 2021, initially leading the team of Entrepreneurs in Residence to provide operational and strategic support to all teams coming through our programmes.
Prior to C13, Stephanie’s career focused on the Energy and Health sectors. She has spent time both in-house and as a Strategy Consultant in renewables, and holds an MSc in Energy and Climate Policy. Stephanie cofounded MysteryVibe, one of the category-defining sextech startups, exiting in 2019. She sits on the Advisory Board of the Vagina Museum.

David Gill
David has been CEO of the St John’s Innovation Centre in Cambridge since 2008. He previously ran the Innovation & Technology Unit at HSBC Bank in London (1997-2004). A Sloan Fellow at the Stanford Graduate School of Business in California (2004-05), he is an Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Manufacturing (University of Cambridge Department of Engineering), a non-executive director of the European Business Network and NXD of several firms specialising in financing early-stage, high-potential businesses.

A dedicated ecologist. Senior advisor to WestCap, board member of Dalcor pharmaceuticals ,investor in science and biotech business and farmer of 2500 acres South of Cambridge.
