This webinar constitutes a financial promotion and is directed only at Professional investors and self-certified High Net-Worth, Sophisticated and Restricted Retail investors.

Michael Langguth, Founding Partner at Carbon13, has helped build hundreds of companies and backed over 100 since co-founding Carbon13.

In this webinar he’s sharing his insights as an investor, and giving an intro to Carbon13 SEIS Fund IX to angels and investors also interested in backing high potential ventures.

Carbon13 is one of Europe’s leading pre-seed investors into high-potential climate tech ventures.

Michael will speak on:

  • How Carbon13 builds high potential climatetech ventures (300+ so far)
  • A mini-masterclass on how Carbon13 builds our deaflow and makes investment decisions for our fund (100 invested ventures and counting)
  • How the UK Gov’s Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS) works – in particular its tax reliefs

He’ll share example startups from our portfolio including startups working on AI, bioengineering, robotics, and energy.

For those of you new to SEIS, we’ll illustrate how the UK gov scheme brings tax benefits such as:

  • Income tax relief of 50%
  • 100% capital gains tax exemption
  • 100% inheritance tax exemption
  • Loss relief on investments that fail
  • And others

(Tax reliefs are subject to status and change.)

£242 million was invested through SEIS in the last tax year alone.

Carbon13’s track record

We’ve invested in 100 startups since 2021, 64 of them through SEIS funds. Notable portfolio startups include Cocoon Carbon (decarbonising steel/cement), MatNex (AI for materials discovery), Kita (insurancetech), Ki Hydrogen (green hydrogen) and Bluemethane (methane capture).

All our investments are built through our Venture Builder and Accelerator programmes. A typical cohort on our Venture Builder will include 40% PhDs, 12+years experience on avg, 50% serial entrepreneurs and 38% female founders.
