Let's use plants that absorb a lot of CO2 very quickly, pyrolyse them to turn them into biochar, and fill those holes up again!

Incentivise mining companies to use mine tailings composed of mafic and ultramafic rocks for carbon capture through enhanced rock weathering. Stimulate to mine through the "not so ore-rich" part of the deposit to produce crushed material for carbon capture, while still extracting precious irreplaceable metals, such as Ni, Co, Pt group elements, etc. This is can be used for a proper and ethical mine closure.
