The Problem
Ammonia is precursor to half of global food, a front runner in clean fuel and a versatile hydrogen carrier, but 2000+ plants emit a combined 450 Mt of CO2 each year. Leaders from agriculture to energy to mining are trying to electrify Haber-Bosch, but as they’re finding out this is no simple task.
The massive pressure and temperature mean the engineering is complex and inflexible. It doesn’t ‘play nicely’ with renewables and it’s capex heavy. The resulting reality is that 99%+ of ammonia production is still fossil fuelled. Nium is using novel nanotechnology to change this.
